Good afternoon everyone! I hope you're well. I write this with a heavy heart as our Great Dane, Buster, has a very weak heart and we may need to put him down. He is almost 8 years old but has really struggled recently and we don't want to see him suffer. Buster was the first dog I owned as an adult and has been a wonderful companion. He will be sorely missed if he passes.
What is the point of all this? If you're like me, we sometimes take relationships and friendships for granted. Contrast that with our dog who loved unconditionally, was always agreeable for the most part, and was happy just being in our company.
After I finish writing this, I'm going to reach out and touch people I know. Let's face it. We're really not on this earth that long yet we all desire to have an impact. I challenge you to reach out to someone. If you have a pet, observe how they do it. I know. It's just a dog or cat. But sometimes we can learn so much from our pets. Have a great day today. Tomorrow is a new day!

Paul, I watched my husband cry when our rotty died. She lived much longer than most big dogs and with each year, she was loved more and more. She was the essence of loyalty. She even tended to the family cat when he got sick. I know what you're saying. Kate
Paul - As a long time dog mama (most of my life), my heart breaks every time I have lost a beloved "fur baby". They are the epitome of unconditional love and devotion. My heart goes out to you and your family and your beloved Buster.
Paul; I know what your going through. Did that too many times to remember. But, I believe people with pets are happier and nicer than those without. They do bless us, and ask nothing in return except to be with us. Some deal.

Hi Paul. It's a blessing to run into folks that think like you. Grateful am i to Active Rain who placed me in a position to acquaint myself with you. Pets and innocent children truly are examples we can look upon to get taught life's lessons from. I accept your challenge to reach out to someone. Your post reeks of the spirit of God. Paul- as usual your post is written from the heart! My heart is heavy after reading this as well. You see I too have a wonderful friend and companion, her name is Heidi. She is a miniature Schnauzer, who thinks the world of her human parents. Yes, that sounds silly, but it is true. I tear up every once in a while knowing her life may end before ours. I will miss her, as you will miss your Buster. Yes indeed God gives us wonderful pets, which is not even a very good word to describe them as they really are. I would say more so as a part of the family, much more than just a pet.
As for your challenge, I will take you up on that as God commands us to do this, and your reminder is a good one. I know Buster knows how much you love him, just remember the best of all eight years God loaned him to you, as will I with our puppy of five years. God bless.

Paul, We lost our chocolate lab Abby this last January. We found out she had cancer and she was so far gone we lost her within a few days. Cherish the time you have left; although after reading your post I know that you will. I wrote a tribute to Abby after she passed and I think it helped my healing process. We have a new friend in our life named Dundy. It is amazing how unconditionally they love us.
