Good morning: I hope you're enjoying your weekend. We're back to cloudy skies and drizzle after record breaking temperatures last week. I was thinking as we get into Summer if you have plans to take time off.
Yes, I know it's difficult. We're wired up and feel the need to be accessible. Even though I have several days away scheduled this summer, I'll be checking in periodically. It could be that because we're on commission we wouldn't want to miss any opportunity.
Still, I think it's important to take time away. How do you do it? Even last year when business was rough, I managed to take a couple weeks away from the office and enjoy time with my family. This summer we'll head to our own little slice of heaven (Priest Lake, Idaho) at least twice. We also have a trip to Leavenworth, WA. for a few days.
I find a day or more off recharges the batteries. Let's face it. We're in a non-stop never-ending business. Alot of us are extremely competitive too; we don't like to lose that deal to someone else. But not taking time away can lead to burnout and a bad attitude about things. I know when I need a day off. I start to get grumpy and impatient with the world around me.
What are your plans this summer? If you haven't made any, I suggest you do everything in your power to take a few days. Even if you don't go anywhere, time away from the stress will do you wonders! Here's to a great summer. Be sure to enjoy it! Take care.

I have been thinking a lot about taking some time off this year. I wanted to take up fishing again and really need to do it. Not just talk about it.
I understand the competitive deal and recharging the batteries and being fresh. I just need to do it.
I agree with you, you need to have time off to relax. Great post.
Everyone needs to take time off or you will burn yourself out. Been there, done that.
Tony: I have as well. And it's not fun! Thanks for the comment.
Kevin: Thank you. None of us is very good about doing it. But if we don't...
Mark: I encourage you to go fishing again. Then, tell me how it was. I wish you well!
I've found Kah-nee-ta Resort in Central Oregon (a hot spring on the Warm Spring Indian Reservation) to be just the ticket. There is absolutely nothing to do there except sit around in warm water all day - and the cell phone reception sucks - most years I can't get a signal at all. So even with best intentions to check in now and then, many times I can't unless I pay the ridiculous hotel in-room phone use fee. And before I pay that fee, I really have to consider how important that phone call is and can it wait another couple of days. Seems things really don't go all to hell if you wait a few days.
Paul,
You said it. It's important to recharge your batteries at least once a year, perhaps twice. Then you are much fresher to give your best for the mortgage industry challenges.
Glenn: That's the way our lake cabin is. if I want to use the phone, I have to buy a prepaid calling card as my cell. doesn't work there. That's o.k. though. There's so much else to enjoy up there.
Esko: I think our business is stressful in good times and bad.
All the more reason to pace ourselves. Thanks for the reply!
I definitely take time off. Nothing is more important than spending time with my family...this always re-energizes me to provide the best service I can to my clients.
I certainly will be going camping at some point over the summer, but as for taking time off? I think I will still have my computer with me, as I feel blogging on a regular basis is required!

Todd: I know its hard as we feel we need to be accessible. There's no reception at our lake cabin which isn't an altogether bad thing1
Jeff: Good for you! Sometimes we forget what's really important in life!
Paul: Funny you should mention that! Before the summer is gone, I'm thinking about some time off and what I'd like to do... thx... Rene'
Rene: Good for you. Let me know where you decide to go.
